This extremely rare sedge hails from the lush tropical forests of South-East Asia, specifically Malaysia and Indonesia. It boasts incredible metallic blue coloration that, unlike begonias and spike mosses, is visible from any angle (dry or wet). This is due to the use of nano-silica particles in the top layers of each leaf that refract blue light. The result is tall shimmering blue “grasses”.

In its natural habitat, it grows in the banks of streams and ponds. Therefore, its roots need to stay consistently wet for the best results. Since it is an understory plant, low light brings out the darkest blue hues.

This sedge can be kept as a houseplant near aquariums or places of high humidity, when not being kept in a terrarium or enclosed environment.

Previously known as Mapania caudata, it has been reclassified as Mapania enodis, and comes in to forms, Wide Leaf and Narrow Leaf.
