Marnier's Kalanchoe (pronounced cal-ann-kowee) is a spectacular succulent belonging to the Saxifrage Family (Stonecrops and Rockfoils). Native to Madagascar, Kalanchoes are evergreen, shrub-like plants with fleshy leaves and incredible inflorescence (which requires direct, bright lighting). Preferring warmer temperatures, although quite capable of surviving low temps for short periods. Keeping ambient air humidity at a medium level is ideal for this plant used to ocean breezes. Speaking of ocean breezes, this species gets it name from the french word for Seafarer, indicating its tendency to grow along the rocky cliffs of beaches.

Pastel green-blue clam shaped leaves, edged in stunning red margins grow stacked like compacted book pages under intense light, and open up under lesser light. It is not uncommon to see the plant take on "Jade Plant" characteristics when grown in lower light. For the best results, keep it in the brightest light possible, utilizing a full spectrum grow bulb when sunlight is not available.

Having a tendency to grow scraggly over time, clipping it back to a lower node encourages more compact, and bushy growth which is more aesthetically pleasing for this species. Much like all Kalanchoes, propagation is done through 'pups' that grow on the edges of recently separated leaves. This often looks the same as "Mother of Millions/Thousands", being from the same genus. This steadfast grower is a personal favorite of the Naturally Designed team, and a great starter for those venturing past the more common "Florists Kalanchoes" found in grocery stores year round.
