One of the more ancient plants we offer, Spikemoss Ferns are neither mosses nor ferns, but more closely related to Clubmoss Ferns (also neither a moss nor fern). But one trait that sets it apart, other than its unusual growing patterns is their iridescent colors! Peacock Spikemoss boasts a brilliant turquoise blue/green color through out with new growth gold-tipped. Under stagnant humidity, the color is usually just green. But with proper air circulation and or medium level humidity, the colors pop creating a sprawling rainbow of fern like growth. This is the second most blue of the Spikemosses we offer; the most intense blue being the Siamese Spike Moss, which is far more rare. Use spike moss in open terrariums with openings that are 50% more narrow than the base to create an ideal growing environment. For bushier growth, trim frequently, and don’t remove so much growth that open spaces appear and allow soil level humidity to dissipate.
